Home Learning

Where a class, group or small number of pupils need to self-isolate, or there are local restrictions requiring pupils to remain at home, we have the capacity to offer immediate remote education.

Our contingency strategy:

  • uses a curriculum sequence that allows access to high-quality online and offline resources that are linked Applegarth’s curriculum expectations
  • gives access to high quality remote education resources
  • makes use of online tools that will be consistently used across the school in order to allow interaction, assessment and feedback
  • enables us to provide printed resources, such as textbooks and workbooks, for pupils who do not have suitable online access
  • recognises that younger pupils and some pupils with SEND may not be able to access remote education without adult support therefore we will work with families to deliver an ambitious curriculum
  • delivers a well-sequenced curriculum so that knowledge and skills are built incrementally, with a good level of clarity about what is intended to be taught and practised in each subject mirroring the learning on site
  • gauges how well pupils are progressing through the curriculum, using questions and other diagnostic tools through the various learning platforms we have invested in (including Seesaw)
  • enables teachers to adjust the pace or difficulty of what is being taught in response to questions or assessments

When planning our remote learning strategy, we have considered these expectations in relation to the pupils’ age, stage of development or special educational needs. Educational research has also been a key driver and we have only implemented strategies which have been proven to be effective.

What can I do if my child does not have digital or online access home?

We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. If you have any issues with online or device access at home, please email: dsl@applegarth.n-yorks.sch.uk. Please outline your issues and a member of our welfare team will get in touch with you to provide support.

Suggested Daily Timetables

We know and understand how important it is for you and your child to have a sense of routine and normality when learning at home. Here are suggested timetables for our different age groups which represent a typical day, on-site, at school: Suggested Timetables for Remote Learning. Some children like to see their timetable with visual representations of the day. Here are some resources should you wish to have one at home: Visual Timetable GridVisual Timetable CardsVisual Timetable Guide.
